Craft Docs is easily a favorite among professionals in need of an intuitive note-taking solution. Known for its clean interface and versatile functionality, Craft is designed to enhance productivity through open-ended note-taking that can span across simple notes, to-do lists, organizing important and random documents, real-time collaboration and so much more.

Craft Docs’ pricing

Craft Doc’s pricing is spread across five plans, including a free plan. Here’s a simple comparison of some of its features across all plans. It’s worth noting that Craft Docs offers a 14-day free trial, and with a single subscription, you can use Craft on all your compatible devices.

Starter plan

Craft offers a free plan that allows users to create up to 10 documents, with 2 additional documents added weekly. This plan provides basic features, including 1 GB of storage, 25 MB file uploads and seven days of version history, making it possible for individuals to explore Craft’s capabilities without any cost.

Plus plan

At $8 per month billed annually or $10 billed monthly, the Plus plan offers unlimited document creation and storage, 30 days of version history and advanced sharing options like password-protected links and custom branding. It includes 500 AI assistant requests per member per month, ideal for solo professionals needing extensive document management features.

Family plan

The Family plan costs $15 per month billed annually or $18 billed monthly and includes all features of Plus, with an allowance of up to five family members to have their own Plus accounts. This plan is great for families or small groups collaborating on projects, and it comes with unlimited storage and file uploads.

Team plan

Priced at $50 per month total, billed annually, or $60 billed monthly, the Team plan includes all Plus features and supports up to 25 team members. It provides 180 days of version history and 2500 AI assistant requests per member per month, making it suitable for small- to medium-sized teams requiring collaborative document creation tools.

Business plan

The Business plan includes all Team plan features, with no limit on the number of team members. It costs $250 per month total, billed annually, or $300 billed monthly and is fitting for large businesses, as it offers comprehensive document management and priority support to ensure efficient collaboration and productivity.

Craft Docs’ key features

Collaborative document editing

Craft Docs has real-time collaboration features, allowing multiple users to edit documents simultaneously. This feature is particularly beneficial for team projects, as it ensures everyone stays on the same page. Compared to Notion, which also offers collaboration, Craft feels much easier to use and has a straightforward interface that makes it feel that much more at home than Notion for document collaboration.

However, if compared with a tool like Evernote, Craft Docs is not necessarily the better option and the better tool will likely be influenced by your preference. My preference for a note-taking app is an intuitive UI — therefore, Craft ranks higher on my list.

Templates

Had it been about project management, ClickUp as an alternative would likely have an edge over Craft. However, purely from a note-taking standpoint, Craft offers a variety of templates for document creation. These are spread across work, personal use, documents and education, touching upon aspects like self-improvement, HR and teams, meetings, students, friends and family, and documentation.

Even though ClickUp offers 1,000+ templates, its note-taking templates are quite limited in comparison to Craft. While its templates are more focused on project management, Craft’s templates are designed for document creation. I particularly enjoyed the personal touch that came from templates like the self-improvement and friends and family templates.

AI document creator

This is a close one between a similar feature in Notion, Notion AI for docs, but my preference is Craft Docs’ AI document creator for a few reasons. Firstly, you can easily try out the AI document creator without even subscribing to Craft, and it generates beautifully formatted and presented documents. It’s also impressive how it auto-generates media for the document prompts you present Craft. The user interface plays its part in making everything done by Craft look that much better, especially if you choose to edit your created document on the Craft app.

Plus it’s dedicated to helping you generate documents with ease, whether drafting proposals, creating templates and more — it’ll save you lots of time and effort.

Cross-platform support

Although Craft Docs is available on multiple platforms, including web, iOS and macOS, it’s not on Android. At least not yet. This means that Apple users can access and edit their documents using Craft from any device, providing a seamless experience across different environments, while Android users are at a disadvantage. On the other hand, alternatives like Microsoft OneNote and Notion work on major operating systems such as Android, iOS, macOS and Windows. ClickUp also supports cross-platform use but is more project management–oriented.

Craft Docs ease of use

From the very start, Craft Docs is intuitive, user-friendly and very easy to navigate. The drag-and-drop functionality, along with keyboard shortcuts and markdown support, makes creating, editing and organizing documents straightforward. I used Craft on iPadOS and macOS, and there was no inferior functionality in the mobile version. It never felt cluttered, either. We can also view ease from the perspective of a single license being enough for you to use Craft on all your devices.

Craft Docs customer support

Craft Docs provides multiple support options to assist users. There’s email support for users who want to escalate issues to Craft. I also found an active Reddit community and a Slack group for users to engage Craft as well as the wider community concerning everything, from issues and features to user experience. Craft also offers a help center as a knowledge base with categories that are likely to cover as many user queries as possible. Finally, it offers a Getting Started guide to help users pick it up as intuitively as possible.

Is Craft Docs safe to use?

Yes, Craft is safe to use as it is SOC 2 and GDPR compliant. The former means that Craft’s security systems are designed and implemented to keep customer data confidential and available while maintaining data integrity. With the latter, Craft has to get your consent before collecting and processing your personal information.

It also offers an Android app that ensures Notion is compatible across all major platforms. Notion is worth considering for users who want to go beyond note-taking to having a flexible and customizable workspace in one platform.

Todoist

Todoist excels in task management with its user-friendly interface and features such as recurring due dates and priority levels. While it may not offer the extensive document creation capabilities of Craft, it has more than 80 integrations, compared to Craft that’s still working on integrations as a feature. This is the Craft alternative for those who want to manage tasks and to-do lists with a lightweight tool.

ClickUp

ClickUp provides an all-in-one productivity platform with advanced project management features, customizable dashboards and time tracking. Even though its note-taking feature is basic, ClickUp offers a broader range of tools compared to Craft, making it suitable for users who need comprehensive project and task management software solutions.

Review methodology

I used the free version of the software for this review of Craft on iPadOS and macOS to test the features and user experience and determine the strengths and weaknesses of the software. I compared the functionality of Craft on macOS versus iPadOS and found that both versions provide more or less the same experience. Finally, I compared my experiences with the capabilities listed on Craft Docs’ website and guides to gauge whether or not their features met the expectations of their descriptions on the website.
